Wide & long table converter User guide

Unpivot columns or spread rows into columns.

Instructions

  1. Enter a table with headers using a file, New table or the CSV tab. Choose wide-to-long or long-to-wide.
  2. List identifier columns separated by commas. For wide-to-long, name the new variable/value columns; for long-to-wide, choose existing ones.
  3. Reshape the table, check the rows and columns, then save it.

Example

Input / settings

ID, Jan, Feb → A,10,20

Result / checks

ID,variable,value → A,Jan,10 / A,Feb,20

For example, id,Jan,Feb becomes multiple rows of id,variable,value. Identifier columns are preserved.

Please note

XLSX / XLS / CSV / TSV / ODS → CSV / XLSX

  • For example, id,Jan,Feb becomes multiple rows of id,variable,value. Identifier columns are preserved.
  • Long-to-wide rejects repeated identifier/variable pairs instead of overwriting them. New column names must differ from identifier names.
  • Files and entered content are processed in this browser. Save results before closing the page.
